Union Pines swept a Tri-County 6 Conference basketball doubleheader Friday at Triton.
The Viking boys rolled past the Hawks 66-52 while the Viking girls won a cliffhanger 42-40.
In the boys’ contest, the Vikings had three players in double figures in improving to 2-2 in the contest (8-10 overall). The Vikings used a 44-24 run over the second and third quarters to cement the win.
Ahmad Jones led the way for the Vikings with 17 points while Jalen Eberhart and Jacob Bowbliss provided 13 points each. Isaiah Robbins and Archie Chandler had eight points each. Tyreek McCoy had seven points.
In the girls’ contest, the Vikings rallied from a one-point third quarter to outscore the Hawks 19-7 in the fourth quarter to get the two-point win.
Emily Bowbliss led the Vikings, now 3-1 in the league and 11-7 overall, with 12 points. Kaley Evans added nine, all on three-pointers, Sara Adams eight while Emma Ring and Molly Schmitz both had six points. Raegan Chapman rounded out the Vikings’ scoring with two points.
Triton was led by Kaila Cooney with 11 points.
Next up for the Vikings will be another conference doubleheader Tuesday at Western Harnett.
