Union Pines split with Southwestern Randolph Tuesday in nonconference basketball action at Union Pines.
The Viking girls dropped a 69-32 decision in the first game of the doubleheader. The Viking boys claimed a 50-47 win over the Cougars in the second game.
The Lady Cougars roared out to a 49-17 first half lead and never looked back in improving to 2-0 for the season.
Emma Ring led the Vikings with 12 points. The other Viking points came from Sara Adams with seven, Emily Bowbliss with six, Molly Schmitz with four and Kaley Evans had three.
Union Pines is now 2-2 for the season.
In the boys’ contest, the Vikings pulled out the win by scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter and holding the Cougars to 14 on the way to grabbing a 50-47 win.
Jacob Bowbliss and Ahmad Jones had 12 points each for the Vikings. Archie Chandler has seven points while Jalen Eberhart finished with six. Jones led the Vikings with seven rebounds and Eberhart added five.
Union Pines is now 2-2 for the season. Both teams will be back in action Tuesday when they face Jack Britt at home. The girls’ game starts at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ game.
