The Union Pines cross country teams picked up several wins at Saturday’s Overhills High School Invitational in Spring Lake.

The Union Pines boys won the boys’ championship race while the Viking girls claim a win in the girls’ invitational race.

The girls added a second-place finish in the girls’ championship race. The boys had a tie for second in the boys’ invitational race.

The Viking boys finished ahead of Cape Fear (second), Harnett Central (third), South View (fourth), Fayetteville Christian, Smithfield Selma and Overhills in the boys’ championship match.

The Vikings were led by Giovani Rincon, finishing in first place with a personal best time of 16:20, Sam Patterson, sixth place,17:04, Josh Patterson, ninth,17:09, Hudson Hayes, 14th, 17:26, and Dalton Graham, 29th, 19:04. Also competing for the Vikes were Kaleb Denneny and Tavish Fraley.

Another first place team award was won by the Lady Vikings in the Girl’s Invitational Race. The Lady Vikings out-distanced Pine Forest, Fayetteville Christian, Overhills, Harnett Central and South View in winning the invitational race.

The top five scorers for the Lady Vikings were Lillia Dillman, fourth, 24:33, Joelie DeVries, 11th, 27:06, Emary Oakley, 17th, 27:52, Gail Ceballos, 19th, 27:58, and Grace Bazinet, 28:08.

Emily Bowbliss led the Lady Vikings in the championship race, earning a second-place finish in 19:56.

Other runners for the Vikes included Reagan Chapman, 22:30, Eva Reinhardt, 23:20, Kennedy Petersen, 23:37, Rebecca Strong, 224:38, Maggie Emmonds, 25:21 and Kala Brown,26:32.

The Viking boys finished in a tie for second with South View in the invitational race. Top scorers for the Viking boys were Ryan Yarder, fourth, 19:19, Austin Baker, fifth,19:20, Richard Hoover, 18th, 19:59, Dylan Torres, 22nd, 20:15, and Jacob Brokhoff 21:35.
