Both Union Pines basketball teams evened their conference records by posting wins Friday at Lee County.
The Viking boys defeated Lee County 46-42 while the Viking girls grabbed a 61-36 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Both teams are now 1-1 in the Tri-County 6 Conference.
The Viking girls started the doubleheader in Sanford by roaring out to a 36-19 halftime lead. Union Pines then put the game away with a 17-3 run in the third quarter.
Molly Schmitz had a double-double for the Vikings, scoring 14 points while grabbing 16 rebounds.
Emma Ring had a game-high 17 points with seven steals. Sara Adams was also in double digits for the Vikes, scoring 13 points.
Other Viking points were provided by Ashley Oglesby with four points, Kaley Evans three, while Kaylie Martin, Raegan Chapman, Nyssa, Maggie McCaskill and Laya Faulk had two points each.
Evans also had 11 rebounds for the Vikings, who are now 9-7 overall.
In the boys’ contest, the Vikings got 14 points from Tyreek McCoy.
Other Viking points were provided by Jalen Eberhart with nine, while Isaiah Robbins, Jacob Bowbliss and Ahmad Jones all had seven points each. Mason Chavis added three points.
The Vikings are now 7-9 overall.
Union Pines will continue with its conference slate Tuesday when it entertains Southern Lee. The doubleheader tips off at 6 p.m. with the girls’ game followed by the boys.
