For the third year in a row, the Union Pines girls’ basketball team has pulled off the double-double.

With a 52-32 win Wednesday over Harnett Central, the Vikings added the Tri-County 6 Conference tournament title to their regular-season championship.

The Vikings won the regular-season crown with a 9-1 record and is now 19-7 overall.

Sparked by senior Kaley Evans the Vikings rolled out to a 26-13 halftime lead and never looked back. Evans went four-for-seven from behind the arc in the first half on her way to finishing with 14 points.

Joining Evans in double figures were teammates Molly Schmitz with 14 and Emily Bowbliss with 13.

Other Viking points were provided by Sara Adams with eight and Emma Ring with three.

Syniah McMiller led the Trojans with 25 points.

The Vikings, who had a first-round bye in the tournament, reached the championship clash by knocking off Southern Lee 55-20 Tuesday in the semifinals.

Union Pines put the game away early, sprinting out to a 23-7 first-quarter lead and a 42-10 halftime lead.

Bowbliss led the way for the Vikes with 15 points while Adams added 13 and Evans had 11 points, including two three-pointers. Evans also had six rebounds.

Viking scoring was rounded out by Raegan Chapman with six, Ring with five, Schmitz and Kaylie Martin with two each and Meagan McCaskill with one.

Now the Vikings will turn their attention to the state 3-A playoffs. They will play in the first round of the playoffs Tuesday night at home against an opponent to be announced. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) will release the brackets Sunday afternoon.
