What’s your favorite week in golf?
While I agree the Masters is a tradition like no other, The Open Championship reigns as my favorite TV viewing experience.
There is no other time the entire year you can wake up to live championship golf on TV.
Today, with elementary-age kiddos in my house, I relish being able to get up early, enjoy a cup of hot tea and watch the action before the kiddos start running rampant.
It’s like viewing a royal wedding but for four days straight!
I still remember many moons ago, pre-kids and family, when I was playing competitive golf, I stayed with the same host family in Syracuse, N.Y., two years in a row, playing in a tournament that fell the week of The Open Championship.
All week we’d get up early, lie on the couch together, snack on whatever was lying on the kitchen counter, and watch golf in our PJs.
It was hours before I needed to be up to prepare for my own tee time. And it was worth every hour of sleep I didn’t get that week.
Why? Because it’s only one week a year.
So, do you have plans for how to watch The Open Championship next weekend?
Well, I want you to join me!
Thanks to the generosity of Golf Pride, we are hosting a Breakfast at the British event on Saturday, July 20. Bright and early, 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the newly opened Golf Pride Headquarters adjacent to Pinehurst No. 8.
We will enjoy a traditional Irish breakfast, catered by Elliott’s, while watching The Open Championship LIVE on the big screen TVs in the Golf Pride HQ.
And bring your putter, so we can enjoy a friendly competition on the nine-hole indoor putting course routed through the Golf Pride offices. Plus, participants will be given a behind-the-scenes tour of the new complex, including a few surprises along the way.
Come as early as you like, stay as long as you want. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. with open seating available throughout the common space, providing great viewing of The Open.
All proceeds from Saturday’s event will support youth programs at The First Tee of the Sandhills. Reserve your seat by visiting thefirstteesandhills.org/breakfastatthebritish or by calling our office at (910) 255-3035.
I hope you will join me for this once-a-year experience. I’m looking forward to a great morning of golf.
