The high school basketball postseason is underway and the county has three teams competing.
The top seeded local team is the Pinecrest boys’ team. The Patriots, seeded third in the East 4-A bracket, got a first-round bye and will see their first action Thursday at home.
Pinecrest is scheduled to play the winner of Tuesday’s Riverside-Durham and Overhills. Results of that game were not available by press time.
Thursday’s game will tip off at 7 p.m.
The other two local squads in the postseason were scheduled to play Tuesday night.
The Pinecrest girls’ team, seeded 24th in the West 4-A bracket were set to face South Mecklenburg.
The Union Pines girls’ team, seeded eighth in the East 3-A bracket, were set to face Southern Nash.
Results of those two games were not available by press time.
If the Viking girls were to win, they would play again at home Thursday against the winner of the first-round contest between Southern Durham and Northeast Guilford.
If the Patriot girls were to win Tuesday they would travel to face Ragsdale, which had an opening round bye.
