The Pinecrest Patriots track and field teams competed in the two-day elite Bojangles Track and Field Classic last Friday and Saturday.
The Patriots performed very well, with many athletes setting new personal records and medaling in their events.
The star performance for the Lady Patriots came from Carmen Alder, who won the overall meet MVP of girls’ distance events by winning both the girls’ 3,200-meter run and the girls 1-mile run with her times of 10:36.84 and 5:02.33, respectively.
Other excellent performances from the Lady Patriots included Emma Overton in the girls 1-mile run, earning eighth place overall, coming across the line in a new season-best time of 5:49.83, Helen West in the girls’ 400-meter dash, placing 11th overall, running a new personal-best time of 59.40, and Izzy Vibbert in the girls’ 400-meter hurdles, running a new school record time of 1:08.34 to earn 11th place.
The excellent performance on the Patriot boys’ side came from Matt Bauer, who placed sixth overall in the elite boys 1-mile run, finishing in a new personal-best time of 4:21.91.
In addition to Bauer’s performance, TJaden Gaddy also had a stellar performance in the boys’ long jump, earning seventh overall with his jump of 22-0.75, and Joel Medlin was outstanding in the boys’ shot put, throwing 35-1 to place him 11th overall.
The Pinecrest Patriots track and field teams will compete in their Sandhills Athletic Conference Championship meet Wednesday, May 1, at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke.
