The Pinecrest Patriots cross country teams had an excellent showing Saturday as they hosted the NCHSAA Mideast 4-A Regional meet at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford.
The Lady Patriots, behind first-place finisher Carmen Alder, finished second in the region while the Patriot boys finished third in the region, qualifying both teams to compete in the state championships.
Alder won the girls’ championship race, breaking the tape with a time of 18:18.60. Not too far behind her was her younger sister Vanessa, coming across in second with a time of 19:06.70.
Behind the Alders were fourth-place finisher Lauren Wimberly, running a 19:50.10, Emma Overton, crossing the line in 21:19.70, Brittany Sparrow, finishing in 21:45.70, Beth Saunders, running a 22:21.10, and Reagan Scepurek, coming across in 23:18.70.
In the boys’ championship race, the top finisher for the Patriots was Adrian Archer, who came across in third, finishing with a time of 16:22.89.
Behind Archer were teammates Zack Gilbertson, placing fifth with a time of 16:34.98, AJ Williams, coming across in 16:52.75, Spencer Lykins, running a 17:33.17, Troye Curtin, crossing the line in 17:36.79, Luis Garcia, with a time of 18:08.74, and Cody Leuenberger, finishing in 19:20.04.
Qualifying members from the Pinecrest Patriots cross country teams will travel to the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville next Saturday (Nov. 9) to compete in the state 4-A meet.
