The Pinecrest boys’ 4x400meter relay team that qualified for the state meet includes Grant Mabe, Champ Lindahl, Girma Schrank and AJ Williams.

The Pinecrest track and field teams competed in the NCHSAA 4A Midwest Regional Meet Monday at Davie County High School in Mocksville.

The Patriots had three individual regional champions, with a total of 15 competitors qualifying for state competition. Competitors finishing in the top four of their events advanced to the state championship.

Carmen Alder was a double winner for the Lady Patriots, earning regional championships in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run. She crossed the tape in 5:03.15 to win the 1,600 and running an 11:14.28 to take first in the 3,200.

Helen West was the other individual champion from the girls’ team, taking first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 59:20.

AJ Williams took an individual championship for the boys’ team, winning the 1,600 by crossing the line in 4:23.62

Other state qualifiers for the Lady Patriots included Arianna Russell in the 300-meter hurdles, earning second place, clocking 46.71 and Emory Bradley in the 800-meter run, coming across in third place with a time of 2:24.31.

In the field events, several Lady Patriots qualified for states, with Asia Adams earning fourth in the triple jump, jumping 33-10, and Valencia Person throwing 35-2 in the shot put to place fourth.

The girls’ 4x400-meter relay team of Russell, Izzy Vibbert, Bradley and West combined for a time of 4:09.47 to earn third place overall and earn a berth in the state event.

Other state qualifiers for the boys, in addition to Williams, included Matthew Bauer in the 800 and 1,600 runs, placing second in both with times of 1:59.85 and 4:30.22, respectively, Adrian Archer in the 3,200, coming across in 9:42.48 to earn third place and Grant Mabe running a 51.23 to place fourth overall in the 400.

Nick Boulanger earned a berth by finishing fourth in the pole vault by vaulting 12-6. The Patriots’ 4x400 relay team of Champ Lindahl, Williams, Girma Schrank and Mabe ran hard to combine for a time of 3:28.83 to earn the second-place spot.

The state qualifiers competed in the NCHSAA State 4-A Championships held Saturday at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro. Results were not available by press time.
