Holes-in-One: Cathy Williams, a member at Mid-South, scored her ace Jan. 25 on the sixth hole. Cathy used her 5-wood to cover the 110 yards, over water, to the green.  Witnessing this perfect shot, her first hole-in-one, were her playing partners Patty Camp, Sherry Bowman and Carolyn Womble.

John Hindson, a member at Pinehurst, recorded his hole-in-one Jan. 29  on the ninth hole of Pinehurst No. 9. John used his 9-iron to cover the 125 yards to the green. 

His wife Lana was his playing partner. It was a great shared celebration for this special event.

Longleaf: The Longleaf Women’s Golf Association held its 2020 kickoff luncheon Jan. 30 at the Heartland Restaurant.  Tom Johnson from the CGA gave a presentation on the new handicap system.

Diane Steele was recognized for her hole-in-one for the 2019 season and the new Board members for 2020 were announced.

Knollwood: The Rainmakers played Feb. 3, and the game was low gross/low net.

Results: gross – Beth Hill, 44, Doris Stone, 49, Sue Berry, 56; net – Susan Ray, 35, Susan Rogers, 35, Lois Smart, 37.

Beacon Ridge: The Women’s Golf Association played on Feb. 4 for its monthly Beacon Cup round.

Linda Dunning won with a net 77. Sarah Abbott was second with 80. Nita Hartless and Ardys Dodge tied for third at 83. Sara Swicegood took fourth with 85.

Pinehurst: The Birdies played Feb. 3 on Pinehurst No. 1 in a contest of one best ball on white and yellow flags and two on red flags.

Results: first – Cornelia Neal, Thersia Noggle, Linda Querec,  Marilyn Thomas, 87; second – blind draw, Marilyn Yesensky, Terri Watt, Aurele Timken, 88; third – Gail Ford, Janet Dill, Patti Dellovade, Barrie Reynolds, 89; fourth – Myrna Floyd, Cheryl Lancaster, Laura Mauer, Lynn Middlebrook, 90.

Closest to the pin honors on the fifth hole was Myrna Floyd and on the ninth it was Sue Hulbert.

The Chippers played on course No. 2 in a game of O.N.E.S, only holes beginning with those letter counted (holes 1,6,7,8,9).

Results: Mary Bernel, 18; Barbara Dyck, 19 (MOC); Amanda Buzhardt, 19 (MOC).

Midland: The Men’s Golf Association played Feb. 5 in an individual net contest.

Results: flight 1 – Mike Lloyd, net 30, David Owens, 31; flight 2 – John Mannion, net 33, Richard Lawrenson, net 35.

The Midland Ladies played on January 31 and the game was a captain’s choice team event.

Results: first – Peggy Jones, Susan Ray, Linda Parke, Cindy Lang, 37; second – Beth Owens, Penny Higgins, Dee Hancock, Tracy Thomas, 37.

American Singles: The Pinehurst Chapter played Feb. 1 on course No. 5 and the game was individual competition utilizing the Peoria Handicap System.

Results: gross – Mike Young 86, Marcus Miller, 89, Tom Carrier, 90; net – Dan Gaynor, 69, Jamie Fisher, 70, Ira Schugar, 71, Charlie Davis, 73.

Jamie Fisher won closest to the pin.

The Pinehurst Chapter played Feb. 4 in a nine-and-dine on Foxfire’s Grey Fox course. The format was individual play utilizing the Peoria Handicap System.

Results: gross – Mike Young, 47, Ed DeWitt, 51, Lois Smart, 53; net – Nancy Vaitkevicius, 31, Carole Skau, 35, Jim Legg, 35, Lynn Walker, 38, Earl Quam, 38.

Closest to the pin winners were Ed DeWitt and Lynn Walker.
