Holes-in-One:  Pete Nehlsen, a member of the Pinewild Men’s Golf Association carded an ace March 2 on the 17th hole of the Holly Course. Pete used his pitching wedge to cover the 100 yards to the green.  This was his third ace and his playing partners were Johann Rudzitis and Cal Erdman.

Mel Bowman, a member at Whispering Woods, recorded his third hole-in-one March 3 on the second hole of the Whispering Pines — Pines Course. Mel used his 9-iron to cover the 115 yards to the green. Celebrating this event were his playing partners Wayne Black, Art Fish, Don Welly and Jim Young.

American Singles: The Pinehurst Chapter played Feb. 29 at Hyland Golf Course. The format was foursome competition with one best ball on par-3 holes and two on all other holes.

Results: first – Earl Quam, Butch Lundgren, Tom Carter, 20 under par; second – Jim Legg, Bob Flesca, Robert Doerr, Mike Campbell, 14 under par; third – Lynn Walker, Kathy Slotter, Ira Schugar, Dan Gaynor, 12 under par.

Kathy Slotter won closest to the pin for women and Tom Carrier for the men.

Pinewild: The Men’s Golf Association played an ABCD shamble Feb. 27 on the Holly Course. The format for scoring was using the lowest net ball and the highest net ball.

Results: first – Jim Moon, Tom Sykora, Ted Davison, Dave Dellaglio, -7; second – Frank Bishop Pete Nehlsen, Mike Glaspy, Jan Novak, -2.

Knollwood: The Sandblaster results for their three-man/one best ball game are as follows: first – John Burns, Ken Pomeroy, Derrick North, 68; second – Jim Braunscheidel, Mitch Sharp, Richard Lawrenson, 71.

Henry Castro won low gross with 40 and Derrick North and Richard Lawrenson tied at 35 for low net.

Mitch Sharp won closest to the pin.

The Rainmakers played March 2 and the game was low gross and low putts.

Results: flight 1 – gross – Shirley Flaherty, 41, putts – Susan Ray, 14; flight 2 – gross – Sara Conti, 50, putts – Sue Hambley, 15; flight 3 – gross – June Davidson, 48, putts – Barbara Woodruff, 13.

Pinehurst: The Women’s Golf association played Feb. 27 on course No. 6, and the game was “middle of winter” (one best ball on holes one to six, two on holes seven-12 and one best ball on holes 13 to 18)

Results: Joyce Arnott, Joyce Harter, Mary Woodford, 83; Diana Circelli, Donna Tanner, Jackie Dominquez, Kendra Muir, 86 (MOC); Cornelia Neal, Susan Bierer, Kerry Arnold, Janet Dill, 86 (MOC).

Closest to the pin on the seventh hole was Gloria Sectish and on 16 it was Ann Magee.

The Chippers played March 4 on course No. 3,   and the game was “bring a friend” with the following results: MaryAnn Lynch, 15; Christine Carter, 21; Jane Rowen, 22.

The Birdies played March 2 on course No. 6 in a game of even and odds (one best ball on even holes and two on odd holes).

Results: first – Rita Weeks, Lynn Dawson, Kerry Arnold, Marilyn Thomas, 89 (MOC); second – Cheri Ziebka, Rhonda Brooks, Mary Lou Seigfried, Darlene Skinner, 89 (MOC); third – Sue McDermott, blind draw, Mary White, Maureen Reeves, 93 (MOC); fourth – Carol Hanna, Jeanie Daigre, Shirlee Sanderson, Estelle Menke, 93 (MOC).

Seven Lakes: The Women’s Golf Association played March 3 in a game called fab fours. Each player totaled their net scores on par-4 holes.

The game was shortened to nine holes  when the rain came.

Results: first – Shirley Flaherty, net 20; second – Denise Atkins tied at net 21, with Cheryl Bantle.

Midland: The Midland Ladies played Feb. 27 and the game was team play/match play.

The winning team was Penny Higgins, Beth Owens, Dee Hancock, Char Lloyd, Margaret Hall, Tracy Thomas, Doris Stone and Sara Conti with a final score of 6 to 2.

The Men’s Golf Association played an individual net game for nine- and 18-hole players.

Nine-holers: flight 1 – Chuck Gallagher, 36, Chad Buckley, 39; flight 2 – David Owens, 35, Bill Parris, 38; flight 3 – Joe Alden, 38, Dick Baird and Charles Childers tied for second with net 39.

18-holers: flight 1 – Steve Presser tied at 74, with Chris Person; flight 2 – Tim Smith, 65, Mitchell, 70.

Charles Childers won closest to the pin for nine-holers and Bob Klicpera won for the 18-holers.

Beacon Ridge:  Sara Swicegood won the 18-hole Ladies monthly Beacon Cup with a net score of 72.  Nita Hartless and Sarah Abbott took first place with net 80.

Foxfire: The Foxfire Ladies held their opening day meeting, luncheon and tournament March 4.

The game was captain’s choice.

Results: first - Sandy Burger, Diane Cray, Sue Manley, MJ Sheldon, tied at net 36, with Ginny Siedler, Kim Spaulding, Connie Hochstetler, Judy McCollum; second – Judy Dickerson, Sue Bachelder, Pam Reyes, Mary Schlehofer, tied at 37, with Rita Ward, Barb Price, Lucille Cardelle, Flo Lashomb.
