Holes-in-One: Mike Fields, representing Pine Needles, recorded a hole-in-one while playing in a CGA Interclub match competition May 29. Competition was held at Pinewild on the Magnolia Course. Mike used his pitching wedge from 114 yards to the 12th green.

Celebrating this perfect shot was his playing partner Gary Strickfaden, and Rocco Simone and Bruce Connors, representing Pinewild. This was Mike’s second ace, the first was at Mid Pines, and each one was witnessed by his good friend Gary Strickfaden.

Joe Oxendine, a member at Pinewild, recorded a hole-in-one June 3, on the Holly Course. Joe used his 8-iron to cover the 103 yards to the 17th hole. His witnesses were his playing partners Bill Montgomery, Jack Butler and Marty Samchalk.

Bob Blackwell, a PCC member, recorded his third hole-in-one May 25 on course No. 9. Bob used his 7-iron to cover the 128 yards to the ninth green.  This was his first hole-in-one here in Pinehurst.

There was lot to celebrate because it was also his wedding anniversary and his wife’s birthday.  Sharing in the celebrations for this special day were his witnesses Bob and Jimmy Hepner and Carol Mulcahy.

Pinewild: The Men’s Golf Association played a “peer play” event May 30 on the Magnolia Course.  

Results: white/mixed tee flight - gross – Bruce Fitzpatrick, 73, Gene Medlock, 76; net – Bill Reynolds, 65, Gary Krasicky, 66; gold/red tee flight – gross – Steven Ross, 78, Bill Pozdol, 82, Bob Watt, 82; net – Larry Anderson, 65, Larry Rotondo, 67, Ken Pitzer, 67, George Watterworth, 67, Jim McMahon, 68, Bob Behnke, 69.

Closest to the pin on the third hole was Walt Blackwell, on the seventh Gene Medlock, on the 12th Gary Krasicky and on the 15th Miles Baldwin.

The Pinewild Azalea League hosted the Pinewild Women’s Golf Association May 21, in a “fiesta time” theme game.

Results: first – Donna Cappiello, Carol Angus, Judilee, Nina Lewis, 25; second – Kim Pike, Lydia Healy, Karen Teems, Mary Lou Herre, 26; third – Judith Kelley, Judy Block, Kay Buckley, Dolores Flashman, 27.

A Mexican-themed luncheon was enjoyed by all following golf.

American Singles Golf: The Pinehurst Chapter played June 4 in a nine-and-dine at Longleaf Golf and Family Club. The format was individual competition utilizing the Peoria Handicap System.  

Results: gross – Paul Tilton, 44, Nancy Vaitkevicius, 45, Mary Lou Roche, 47, Michelle Liveris, 47; net – Carole Skau, 26, Patty Allan, 29, Pat Koubek, 32, JoAnn Duncan, 33.

Nancy Vaitkevicius won closest to the pin for the women and Earl Quam for the men.

Southern Pines: The ParSeekers played their annual member-member tournament June 4 and the game was the best of two scores.

Results: Elaine Workman and Dottie Guckin, net 57; Jean McNeill and Patti Billingham, net 59; Ann McGee and Ginger Addis, tied at net 61, with Shirley McIver and Holly Meystre.

Whispering Pines: The Ninettes played in a “revert three holes to par” contest June 3 on the front nine of the River Course. Each player took three holes and changed their score to par, with two-thirds of each player’s handicap used for scoring.

Results: Linda Schubert, 31, and Judy Loughlin, 32.

The Pinettes played June 4 in a Crier’s tournament (each player could throw out their four worst holes).

Results: flight 1 – Sandy Burger, 48, Helen Gibbons, 49; flight 2 – Margret Endrigat, 49, Pat Bickoff, 50; flight 3 – Pat Talcott, 46, Pam Jones, 49, Hope Dugenske tied at 52, with Ginny Campling; flight 4 – Nancy Donley, 51, Joyce Reitler, tied at 52, with Linda Anderson.

Knollwood: The Rainmaker results for June 3 in a low gross/low net game are as follows: flight 1 – Peggy Jones, gross 42, Tina Burns, net 34; flight 2 – Susan Ray, gross 45, Sara Conti, net 34; flight 3 – Dee Hancock, gross 46, Susan Rodgers, net 31; flight 4 – Joan Mangrum, 48, Barbara Woodruff, net 32.

Mid South: The club held its “Red, White and Blue Memorial Day Scramble” with individual teams, at least one woman golfer in each foursome, strokes determined on individual handicaps depending on the hole and participants either hit from the red, white or blue tees.

Results: first – Paul Jett, Jr., Kim Jett, Dave Ennis, Ron Papesh, 50; second – Rich Bolden, Debbie Bolden, Steve Mannino, Sara Mannino, 51; third – Mike Pierce, Lauren Pierce, Tommy Ryan, Amber Ryan, 52.

The Mid South Club held its member-member tournament May 26.

Midland: The Midland Skinners played June 1 with skin winners being  Paul Stricker on the first hole, Denny Way on the fifth and Steve Presser on the ninth.

Ted Meyer and Steve Presser tied at net 30 and Brad Zeal had net 32.  Brad Zeal won closest to the pin.

The Midland Ladies played May 30 in a “hate’m game.” Each player could throw out three holes that they hated. Scoring was low net.

Results: flight 1 – Sara Conti, 22, Peggy Jones, 23; flight 2 – Doris Stone, 20, Paula Hill, 22; flight 3 – Pat McMahon, 23, Char Lloyd, 26.

Sandblaster Golf results for June 4 in a two best balls of the foursome contest are as follows: Henry Castro, Ron Flock, Derrick North, Dick Baird, 56; Tim Smith, Ken Pomeroy, Jim Aanrud, Richard Lawrenson, 57; John Burns, John Mannion, Jim Burrill, Joe Alden, 61.

Henry Castro won low gross with 36 and Tim Smith won closest to the pin.

The Midland Men played June 5 in a two best balls of the foursome contest.

Beacon Ridge: The Beaconettes played a captain’s choice game May 30 and the winning team was Barb Card, Sue Frank and Nita Hartless at net 30.

The 18-Hole Ladies played a “Pinehurst round” May 28, with the following results: first – Barbara Card and Nita Hartless, 60; second – Mary Snead and Linda Dunning, 71; third – Rose Garner and Sue Sikes, 75.

Pat Land is the 18-Hole Ladies winner of the monthly Beacon Cup round with a net score of 58. Other scores: Barbara Card, net 62; Marilyn Holzerland net 64; Lindy Dibella and Nancy Cunningham tied at net 67.

The Men’s Golf Association played its monthly Ace of Aces qualifier June 5 with the two low net golfers qualifying for a handicap tournament in October. Max Picinich at net 63 and Peter Wyckoff at net 64 were the qualifiers.

Other results: Ron Dunning, 65; Pete Chase, 66; Jan Pollnow and Phil Thingstad tied at 67; Joe Mannuci, Don Smith and Marty Price tied at 69.

Closest to the pin winners were Don Smith and Tom Rudziensky.

Foxfire: The Ladies Golf Association played its McKenzie Cup tournament to determine the best net champion over two days of play.  Competition was on May 29 and May 30.

Results: first – Judy Dickerson, net 128; second – Kim Spaulding, net 133; third – Ginny Siedler, net 136.

The Ladies Golf Association played June 5 in a format of the best net ball of the pair.

Results: first - Diane Cray and Jackie Martin, 55; second – Ginny Siedler and Martha Marshall, 57; third – Sandy Burger and Judy McCollum, 59.

Longleaf: The 18-Hole Ladies played a team event and the format was one best ball on odd holes and two best balls on even holes (holes nine and 18 did not count).
