Holes-in-One: Jean Grieshaber, a member at Pinewild, recorded her fifth hole-in-one July 5 on the third hole of the Holly Course. Jean used her 31-degree hybrid to cover the 113 yards from the gold tees.

Witnessing this perfect shot were her playing partners Deb Chuderewicz and Rita Danker. Well done, Jean.

Ed Sabo, a member at Pinehurst, was seven under par on the four par-5s in his round of golf June 3 on course No. 6. Ed carded a birdie on the second hole, followed by an albatross (a double eagle) on the sixth, then another birdie on the 10th and finally an eagle on the 15th hole. Ed was playing from the white tees and his final score was gross 66. His playing partners were Bob Sandler and Pete Dellovade.

Truly a round of golf for the record books.

Interclub 1: The third match of the season was played July 9 on Pinehurst No. 1, and the points for day of play were Whispering Pines, 45; Pinehurst, 43.5; CC North Carolina, 40; Foxfire, 32; Pinewild, 28.5.

Year-to-date totals: CC North Carolina 118.5; CC Whispering Pines, 115.0; Pinehurst, 113.5; Pinewild, 110.0; Foxfire, 105.0; Southern Pines, 85.0.

Interclub II: The third match of the season was played July 9 at Pinewild, and the day of play results were: Pinehurst No. 9, 47; Pinehurst No. 7, 43; Pinehurst Main Club, 37; Pinewild, 35; Mid-South, 29; CC Whispering Pines, 25.

Knollwood: The Rainmakers played July 8 and the game was low net and low putts.

Results: net – flight 1 – Penny Higgins, 28; flight 2 – Susan Ray, 32; flight 3 – Mary Chapman, 33; flight 4 – Dee Hancock, 30; putts – flight 1 – Beth Owens, 15; flight 2 , Linda Parke, 15; flight 3 – Carol Huber, 17; flight 4 – Lois Vollmer, 15.

Pinewild: The Women’s Golf Association played July 9 and the game was odds and evens. The format was one best ball between A and C players on odd holes and one best ball between B and D players on even holes. 

Results: first – Jill Hemingway, Marilyn Otto, Wendy Schreiber, Jan Behnke, 59; second – Dee Dee Schmidt, B J Fulcher, Karen Greene, Karen Teems, 61; third – Chris Novak, Ann Blayney, Jody Young, Nancy Wurst, 61; fourth – Peggy Clark, Lori Ricker, Mary Vincenik, Cathy Slocum, 62.

Beacon Ridge: The Eighteen-Hole Ladies played their July Beacon Cup round July 9 with Mary Snead winning the cup with a net 64.  Nita Hartless and Lindy Dibella tied at net 65. Nancy Cunningham carded a net 68. Sue Frank won closest to the pin.

Whispering Pines: The Ninettes played a best ball team event July 8 on the back nine of the River Course. Full handicaps were used for scoring.

Judy Loughlin and Sandy O’Malley won with 39. Linda Schubert and a blind draw were second with 40.

The Men’s Golf Association played July 10 and the game was man in the box. Each player in the foursome took turns in the “box” and their net score and the best net of the remaining three players is counted for the score.

Bryon Currie, Art Woodward, Dick Harris and Matt Ragsdale, carded 120. Larry Clapp, Peter Kwon, Dean Kalles and Chris Reitler, tied at 122, with Pat O’Malley, Peter Pahk, John Hart and Tom Harp.

The Pinettes played July 9 in a fabulous fours game (only par-4 holes for scoring) and the winners were: flight 1 – Debbie McCormick, 41; flight 2 – Daryl Pierce, 39; Wanda Parker, 41; flight 3 – Barbara Misiaszek, 40; flight 4 – Joyce Reitler, 43.

Pinehurst: The 7/9 Ladies Golf Association played July 5 in a one best ball on the front nine and two best balls on the back nine game.

Results: first – Tricia Williamson, Dianne Olmsted, Judy Gais, Jan Kuklok, 88; second – Jackie Nyberg, Sharon Wilson, Diane Negley, Jean Jordan, 96; third – Deborah Sizer, Trish Christina, Sigrid Gross, Darcy Myers, 96.

The 7/9 Ladies Golf Association played June 28 in a game of “40 balls.”

Results: first – Bonnie Dingman, Jane Lee, Diane Negley, Jane Asdal, minus 16; second – Sue McDermott, Diane Olmsted, Peggy Poole, Patti Dellovade, tied at minus 14, with Marti Rust, Deborah Sizer, Marie Schneider.

The 7/9 Ladies Golf Association played July 3 in an individual Stableford challenge.

Results: flight 1 – Marti Rust, 34, Peggy Poole, 32; flight 2 – Diane Tate, 32, Jane Lee, 35; flight 3 – Jean Jordan, 33, Patti Dellovade, 32.

The Tin Whistles played July 6 in the Koch (AKA Acura) Shamble, quota scoring, on Pinehurst No.5.

Results: first – Rick Brownlee, Mike Rospert, Barry Lerman, Chuck Terrill, +20; second – Jim Cole, Bill Christina, Ernie Ferrell, Mike McKitrick, +13; third – Parks Cobb, Jerry Lefton, Jack Ferrel, Jim Voelkel, +12.

The Silver Foils played July 10 in a one best ball on par 4s,  two on par-3 and par-5 holes.

The Men’s Golf Association played July 10 in a 3-2-1 come out swinging game on course No. 3.

Midland: The Midland Skinners played July 6 and the winners were Tim Smith on the second hole, Harvey Koonce on the fourth, Brad Zeil on the fifth and Chad Buckley on the seventh.

Chad Buckley and Tim Smith tied at 30 for low net and Bob Klicpera was third with 31. Henry Castro won closest to the pin.

The Men’s Golf Association played July 3 in a two best balls of the foursome game.

Eighteen-holers results: Bob Klicpera, Harvey Koonce, Ted Meyer, 121; John Burns, Chad Buckley, Emmett Callow, 127.

Nine-holers results: Jim Brunscheidel, Paul Cottam, John McMahon, Richard Lawrenson, 56; Vern Elhart, Bob Geller, John Mannion, Dick Baird, 61.
