Holes-in-One:  Miles Baldwin, a member of Pinewild’s Men’s Golf Association, carded his sixth ace July 6 on the 15th hole of the Magnolia Course.  Miles used his 5-hybrid to cover the 162 yards to the green.  Sharing in the celebration were his playing partners Dave Devendorf, Paul Jones and Allan Vernier.

Ted Davison, a member of Pinewild’s Men’s Golf Association, carded his fifth ace July 16, on the third hole of the Holly Course. Ted used his 6-hybrid to cover the 127 yards to the green. His playing partners were Kevin Carroll, Art Lannon and Jim Young. There were high fives all around for this special event.

Carol Hannah carded a hole-in-one April 6 on the fourth hole of Pinehurst No. 3.  Carol used her 7-iron to cover the 84 yards to the green. Her playing partner was her friend Brenda Thomas.  This was her second hole-in-one; her first was 11 years ago.

The Pinewild Ladies played a Christmas in July game July 16. The format was throw out one hole on the front nine and two on the back nine.

Mid South: The club held its annual July 4 scramble. The format was a best ball “step aside” scramble with individual handicaps used to determine number of strokes for each team.

Beacon Ridge: The Beaconettes played their July Beaconette Cup competition July 11 with Terry Rudziensky winning the cup with a net 33. Clara Karnish had net 30, Nita Hartless and Jan Lindstrom tied at net 34.

Longleaf: The Women’s Golf Association played a one best ball of the foursome game.

18-lolers results: Nancy Cherosnick, Ellen Leslie, Ravelle Whitener, Darlene Luppino, 29; Inge Stipe, Roberta Williams, Mary Olech, Betty Bahler, blind draw, tied at 32, with Lynn Dunn, Diane Steele, Sandi Fischer, Betty Bahler.

The 9-holers played an individual net on par-4 holes and the top finishers were Ruth Hansell, 24; and Karen Gideon and Ann Doster tied at 26.

American Singles: The Pinehurst Chapter played July 16 in a nine and dine at the par-3 Azalea Course at Pinewild. The format was individual competition utilizing the Peoria Handicap System.

Results: gross – Norm Farnham, 32; Mike Young, 32; Nancy Vaitkevicius, 38; Ed DeWitt, 38; Pat Koubek, 42; Renee Miller, 42; net – Patty Allan, 19; Peggy Jordan, 21; Renee Miller, 24.

The Pinehurst Chapter played July 14 in the Dave Courtright Memorial Tournament, 18 holes at The Tillery Tradition CC. The format was a foursome competition playing “Mutt and Jeff,” with only the shortest and longest holes counted. The shortest was at gross scores and the longest at net scores.

Results: Lynn Walker, Jerry Putnam, Butch Lundgren, Robert Doerr, 62; Patty Allan, Ira Schugar, Dan Gaynor, Ric Spear, tied at 63, with Donna DeCesare, Scott Smith, Tom Carrier; Susan Thomee, Jamie Fisher, Jim Legg, Greg Morris, 65; Ed DeWitt, Luna Wei, Mike Campbell, Mike Young, 68; Martez Norris, Renee Miller, Norm Farnham, 71.

Closest to the pin for women was Patty Allan and for the men it was Ira Schugar.

Midland: The Skinners played July 13 with John McMahon having the winning skin on the second hole and Tony Leo on the fourth.

Ted Meyer won low net with 31, Chad Buckley had net 32 and Paul Cottam had net 33. Tom Kakalakous won closest to the pin.

The Midland Ladies played July 11 in a low gross and low net game.

Flight 1: gross – Peggy Jones, 43; net – Penny Higgins, 34; flight 2 – gross – Linda Parke, 46; net – Paula Hill, 36; flight 3 – gross – Pat McMahon, 56; net – Kathy Sloan, 37.

Kathy Sloan won closest to the pin honors on the second hole.

The Men’s Golf Association played July 17 in an ABCD Stableford game.

18-holers results: Chad Buckley, Henry Castro, Ted Meyer, 136 points; Bob Klicpera, Harvey Koonce, Mitchell Sharpe, 135 points.

Southern Pines: The ParSeekers played “drop any three holes and use 90 percent of your handicap” game.

Flight 1: Patti Billingham, 48, Elaine Workman, 50, Dotti Guckin, tied with Bonnie Quesenberry at 53; flight 2 – Sandra Greiner and Kathy Waldron tied at 48, Donna Drum-Thomas, 51, Shirley McIver, 56.

Knollwood: The Rainmakers played July 15 in a team play competition, with two low net scores were needed for scoring.

Results: Penny Higgins, D. Bowman and Dee Hancock, 56; Susie Ray, Doris Stone and Lynn Weaver, 62.

The Sandblaster Golf scores for July 16 in a three-man best ball contest are as follows: Ken Pomeroy, Dave Owen, Jim Burrill, 58 (MOC); Art Gula, John Mannion, Jim Aanrud, 58 (MOC); John Burns, Derrick North, Joe Alden, 60.

John Burns won low gross with 39. John Mannion won low net with 28 and closest to the pin.

Whispering Pines: The Pinettes played a Crazy Corner ABC tournament July 16.

Results: Helen Gibbons, Joy Hertel, Joyce Reitler, 67; all tied at 70 were Elke Phillingane, Daryl Pierce and Nancy Donley; Karen Hobbs, Judy Woodward and Barb Misiaszek (blind draw) and Sue Wagner, Be Schilling and Elke Phillingane (blind draw).

The Ninettes played July 15 on the back nine of the River Course. The game was “predict your score.”

Results: flight 1 – JoAnn Boron off by 1; flight 2 – Margaret Pluff off by one 1.

The Men’s Golf Association played July 17 and the game was one best gross and one best net ball for 18 holes.

Results: Larry Clapp, Jim Wagner, Stuart Goodwin, Bob Adams, 136; Jim Kelley, Richard Dodge, Peter Leon, Bob Fetters, 138.
