Hole-in-One: Tucky Hobbs, a member at Pinehurst, recorded her third hole-in-one Aug. 1, while playing in the Women’s Golf Association’s weekly tournament.  Competition was held on course No. 3, and Tucky used her 6-iron to cover the 95 yards to the fourth green. Playing partners Mary Sweet and Shirlee Sanderson were her witnesses.

American Singles: The Pinehurst Chapter played Aug. 3 at Cheraw State Park Golf Course.  The format was two best balls with all birdies counting.

Donna DeCesare won closest to the pin for women and Robert Doerr won for the men.

Beacon Ridge: Sue Frank, with a net 32, won the Beaconettes monthly low net tournament. Competition was held Aug. 1 with Barbara Card at net 36 and Leslie Springer at net 39.

Sue Frank also won closest to the pin on the sixth hole.

The Men’s Golf Association played its monthly Ace of Aces qualifier Aug. 7 where the two low net golfers qualify for a handicap tournament in October. The qualifiers were Randy Lambert, 66, and Daryl Emerson, 67.

Non-qualifiers results: flight 1 – Mark Lindstrom, 63, Max Picinich, 67, Phil Thingstad, 68; flight 2 – Peter Wyckoff, 67, Marty Price, 69, Jan Pollnow and Joe Mannuci tied at 74.

Max Picinich won closest to the pin on both holes.

The Eighteen-Hole Ladies played their monthly Beacon Cup Round Aug. 6 with Sue Sikes winning with a net 73.  Sandy McDermott, a previous winner, had net 69 and Nita Hartless and Sara Swicegood tied at 74.

Knollwood: Sandblaster Golf was played Aug. 6 and the game was two best balls of the foursome.

Results: first – John Burns, Dave Owens, Ron Flock, Joe Alden, 56; second – Jim Braunscheidel, Paul Cottam, John Mannion, Rich Baird, 57; third – Art Gula, Tim Smith, Jim Burrill, Jim Aanrud, 58.

Paul Cottam, Dave Owens and John Burns tied at 40 gross.

Midland: The Men’s Golf Association played Aug. 7 in a captain’s choice gross scores only game.

Steve Presser eagled the 282-yard sixth hole to win closest to the pin honors.

Whispering Pines: The Pinettes played Aug. 7 and the game was Mutt & Jeff. Competition was on the Pines Course, using the silver tees, and the game was net scores on par-3 and par-5 holes.

Results: flight 1 – Daryl Pierce, 29, Sandy Hallet, 31, Nancy Kendrick, 31, Janet Schultz, 31; flight 2 – Joyce Reitler, 29, Be Schilling, 29, Sharon Tate, 30.

The Men’s Golf Association held a two-day member-guest July 30-31. The format was that each team played five nine-hole matches with one point awarded for each hole won, one-half point for a tied hole and zero for a loss of a hole. If a team won their match they won an extra point, there were no extra points for a tied match.

Results: flight 1 – Craig Dabbs and guest Keo Kolosilva, 34 points; flight 2 – Richard Dodge and guest Joe Dodge, 30 points; flight 3 – Peter Pahk and his guest Tony Pisacane, 34.5 points; flight 4 – Rich Gibbons and his guest Bill Sheeley, 34 points.

Foxfire: The Women’s League mid-year meeting  was held Aug. 7 with a play day and a luncheon. The day was dedicated to a long-time Foxfire resident and friend, Jean Brown, with proceeds of the day going to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

The game of the day was a Las Vegas captain’s choice on the Grey Fox course.

Results: Sandy Burger, Pam Reyes, Sue Bachelder, 70; Leslie Frusco, Sonja Nelson, Connie Hochstetler, Judy McCollum, 71; Sue Sedlak, Barb Smart, Lucille Cardelle, Marshall, tied at 73, with Judy Rankin, Jaunita McCleney, Brenda Sheldon.

Kim Spaulding won closest to the pin and Judy Dickerson won closest to the line.
