A handful of local track and field athletes are competing this week in the AAU Junior Olympic Championships hosted in Greensboro.
Five members of the Sandhills Track Club, and another Moore County resident competing from the Randolph Roadrunners will be on the track at Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
These athletes qualified for the championships through regional and state competitions, and now will take on the best athletes in the nation.

Annika Stark, of Vass, and Brianna St. Louis, of Whispering Pines, both attend Union Pines High School. Stark will compete in the heptathlon, the high jump and the long jump. St. Louis will compete in the triple jump and the 200-meter dash.
Four junior athletes also qualified for the championship.
Jace Kiser, of West End, will compete in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs and the long jump in the 9-year-old division. Akira Blackmon, of Spring Lake, is in the field for the 100- and 200-meter runs, as well as the long jump in the girls 9-year-old division. Miracle White, of Southern Pines, will compete in the long jump. Zachariah Kelly will compete in the high jump.
