I believe that the Sunday editorial regarding U.S. Kids Golf missed the major point.
Yes, the golf industry and associated businesses have been hit hard by the COVID-19 virus, but I believe that the organizers of U.S.Kids Golf are irresponsible to hold an event that relies on young boys and girls, ages 6 to 17, to boost the local economy.
These young golfers will come from almost every state and possibly a few foreign countries. Is it worth the health risk to these young golfers and their families to hold this event this year? According to NCDHHS, the Pinehurst ZIP code area has the highest concentration of COVID cases in Moore County. Yes, many are elderly in care facilities, but the risk looms.
