The United States is the only democracy with a major conservative party so extreme in its hostility to government that it rejects universal health insurance, climate science or tax increases of any form at any time. And the GOP’s attraction to white racial grievance and authoritarianism is a direct result of being saddled with unpopular economic views.

The fundamental fight is not between left and right but between proudly ignorant, reckless and incompetent indecency and those who oppose it.

I am insulted by Bob's three sentences. Must have taken him a week to put that trash on paper.

Until doctors, nurses and hospitals all work for free and with no taxpayer support, medical care will remain just another service humans must pay for, one way or the other. Getting the government involved has only resulted in the usual mess - cronyism, less choice and higher costs. The best government is a minimal government that is rarely seen.

Hey is a shock. Conservatives aren't the only ones turning down "universal" healthcare. When single payer (ColoradoCare) was placed on the ballot in uber liberal Colorado it was defeated by more than 2/3 of the voters once it was revealed what it would cost!

Health care as a privilege? How does a five year old earn the "privilege" of being treated for, say, pneumonia. Nobody says you can't be both "decent" and ignorant Jim. Don't let evidence base science interfere with your Fox based reality. Mark, I for one can't imagine why anyone would think you may harbor any ethnic or racial biases. What makes you think Bob was referring to you?

Mark Hayes

Ken, you seem more interested in making some snarky childish remarks directed at others, rather than addressing the articles. It appears you suffer from the Dunning-Kruger Effect " People who seem to have a superiority complex are often compensating for a sense of inferiority, and people who are less intelligent tend to overestimate their own smarts. " This about raps it up for you and me.

ken leary

I doubt this "raps" it up for us Mark, and the question of a "superiority complex" is just what I alluded to in my question to you. Which incidentally, you once again failed to address. Maybe it went over your head.

Mark Hayes

Yep, gotta check that spell check, missed the " rap " instead of " wrap ". " Went over your head ", yes, you are correct, now this " wraps " it up for us.

Mark Hayes

I don't object to being criticized for not supporting liberal views, I do object to being considered a racist because of my views, especially from one that chose to take the White flight to Pinehurst, a 96% White populated area.

Wow, the writer would likely be happier living in a worker’s paradise like Cuba or Venezuela where he could enjoy all that great free stuff.

Jim Davis

Interesting...because I object to publicly funded universal health insurance, but instead view health care as a privilege, question climate change and the science behind it and reject tax increases without government cost cutting makes me somehow less decent than the author of this letter...
