My wife and I recently attended a neighborhood gathering to hear from John Strickland, the candidate seeking election as Pinehurst’s mayor. Rather than offering a laundry list of promises to different interests, Mr. Strickland spoke primarily about his intention to pay close attention to the values held by the citizens of Pinehurst, and  about his commitment to judge village initiatives and issues with those values in mind.

We were both surprised and pleased by this emphasis in his remarks, and we would welcome such an attitude in our village leadership.

We would encourage others in Pinehurst to listen carefully to what the various candidates running for Village Council positions say, and whether they seek to share a vision for our village or simply throw out promises that may fade after Election Day.
