The UNC Board of Governors doesn’t want to restore Silent Sam. Board Chairman Harry Smith says the next move is uncertain, and the board doesn’t want to be tied to an arbitrary deadline for a Confederate monument.

The fact that a government organization refuses to follow state law and do what they are required to do is evidence of the lack of morals in academia. Durham County is also in violation of state law when it comes to the statue torn down in Durham. They follow the laws that they like but ignore those that do not fit into their political agenda. Any other citizens would be arrested.

Maybe this is what the state Department of Justice needs to do: The only way to prove to citizens that laws must be obeyed is by arresting those that refuse to.

Silent Sam, along with all other statues and monuments, should be respected for what they are, parts of our history. Bad parts but still parts that can teach. For those that do not wish to learn from history, you will be the losers in life.

Yes Kent, the "Left" is terrified that a genius such as yourself will soon overwhelmingly manage to convince and garner the support of hundreds of millions of Americans and be convinced that the poor Confederates were the victims in The War of Northern Aggression. Or they will just as soon as you finance your own space shot and satellite to prove, once and for all, that the Earth is flat.

Well put. These peoples’ action is no different than what the Taliban have done, destroying relics of the past that they deem a threat. The left fears reminders of the constitutional rights of Confederate states to secede, and that the public will learn the true origins of the War of Northern Aggression - statism.
