Wade Crosby Vollmer, 88, of Southern Pines, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019.

He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Ridley Park, Pa., to the late Russell and Sara Loveland Vollmer.

Wade grew up in upper New York state and attended New Hartford High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He later earned a bachelor’s degree from Bryant College in Rhode Island. Wade met Lois after his family moved to Camp Hill, Pa. He started his working career with Omark Industries in Oregon, a chain saw and tree harvesting company. Wade was an active member of Community Congregational Church, where he served in many capacities such as deacon and president of the Men’s Fellowship. He was also an avid golfer. He gained a love of golf by working as a caddy and in golf pro shops. Locally, he was on staff at Knollwood Golf Course for many years. With Lois, he sold golf clothing out of a van to golf shops in four states.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Miller Vollmer; sons, Scott Vollmer (Joyce), of Raleigh, and Gary Vollmer, of Bellingham, Wash; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and his sister; Sue Larsen, of Deer Isle, Maine.

A memorial service celebrating Wade’s life will be held Friday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at Community Congregational Church.
