Vera Arlene Miller, 92, of Southern Pines, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020.
Vera was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Richard and Fannie Thornhill. She married Vincent J. Miller, of Arthur, Iowa, in 1948 at the Sacred Heart Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, where they resided until their retirement in 1984.
Vera was employed by the Iowa State Department of Human Services for 32 years, until retirement, when they moved to their home in Pinehurst, to be near their son and his family. In 2007, they moved to Southern Pines.
When not involved with golf activities, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their two granddaughters.
Surviving are her son, Vincent R. Miller (Vinnie) and wife, Gail, of Pinehurst; two granddaughters, Lindsay Daniels and husband, Lt. Col. Chris Daniels, of Pennsylvania; and Dr. Caitlin Pugh, DMD and husband, Dr. Scott Pugh, DMD, of Lexington; and two great-grandsons, Ethan and Weston Daniels, of Pennsylvania. She also has several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Kathy Shelley, of Stockdale, Texas, and Karla Hollemweuger and husband, Dr. Enoc Hollemweuger, of Phoenix, Ariz.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Vincent J. Miller; her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
