Velna Lucille Caviness Garner, 92, of Robbins, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Neal Jackson and the Rev. Robert Kidd presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Garner was born Nov. 24, 1926, to Joseph Robert and Bertha Cheek Caviness. She loved her church and was a member of the Meekness Sunday School Class. She enjoyed word find books and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a homemaker, and especially loved cooking for her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Velna was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bud Garner; brother, Carlton Caviness, and great-grandson, Corey Wilkes.
She is survived by daughters, Wanda Ellington (Steve) and Debora Ritter (Ronnie); son, Ronald Garner (Faye); brother-in-law, Jimmie Garner; sister-in-law, Janelle Garner; grandchildren, Joseph Garner, Bradley Garner, Chad Ellington, Tiffany Ellington, Stephanie Saunders; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Robert, Justin, Dakota and Hayden Garner, Jackson, Thomas and Julia Ellington, Chandler, Ashton, Christian and Cayden Wilkes.
Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett and other times at the family home.
