Ruth Etta Calloway Wilkerson, 97, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, March 23, in Raeford.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Rufus Mclean.
She was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Surry County, to the late William and Maude Fulk Calloway. She will be remembered for her faith and commitment to God, for the way in which she helped others, her courageous spirit and her love of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Wilkerson; son, James T. Wilkerson Jr.; special friend, Max Foster; her brothers, Warren, Ralph and Leonard Calloway.
She leaves behind her loving daughters, Ruby W. Perkins (Skip), Edna W. Morgan (John), and Lola W. Jones (Chuck); her loving sister, Shirley C. Potts (Al); and brother Shelby Calloway; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Ruth had a long 22-year career as bookkeeper and payroll clerk with Aberdeen Coke Plant. Her many accomplishments include serving as president, treasurer and vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as receiving many distinguished awards from the Auxiliary. She also served as president and treasurer for Shiloh’s Women of the Church and was a long standing elder at Shiloh Presbyterian Church — she dearly loved the church and its people. She will also be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking and sharing of cakes, pies — and especially her homemade biscuits — with so many.
The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude each act of kindness and every expression of sympathy shown during this celebration of Mom’s life.
