Robert Lester Horne, 91, of Seven Lakes, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst.
Robert was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Lynn, Mass., to the late Lester and Winnifred Horne (McCormick). He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris McHugh (Horne), and his granddaughter, Jennifer Marie Crump.
He is survived by his loyal wife of 48 years, Linda Horne (Walker); daughter, Nicole M. Walther (Horne); son-in-law, Michael Walther; and grandkids, Madelyn, Samantha and Michael Robert, of Claymont, Del. He is also survived by his son, David Horne and daughter-in-law, Judy, of Celina, Ohio, and their children, Robin Parent (Horne), husband, Eric, and their children, Taylor and Jacob, as well as son, Christian Prince and his children, Gracie, Ava and Drew. Robert is also survived by nephews, Robert and Lester, and niece, Maureen, as well great-nieces and great-great nephews.
Robert was an entrepreneur at a very young age. He raised chickens and sold eggs to neighbors, friends and local businesses. As a young teen working at a local theater, he was responsible for taking the nightly deposits to drop off at the bank on his way home.
He entered the Navy after graduating from high school, receiving aeronautical training. After World War II, he attended Boston University and the Aeronautical School.
Robert worked for General Electric Company for 40 years in their gas turbine jet engine department, working closely with foreign military governments. He worked in 80 countries and lived in seven.
In life, he loved flying his airplanes, skydiving and skiing in the European Alps. He enjoyed spending time in his retirement years traveling to different countries and spending time with his family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, at Trinity Christian Fellowship, 425 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst.
