Paulina Squiabro Brown, 88, known to all as “Nena,” passed away peacefully Saturday, March 21, 2020, in her home in Whispering Pines, surrounded by her loving family.
Paulina was born Jan. 20, 1932, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She lived for many years in Chicago, Ill., and in Miami, Fla., before settling here in the Sandhills in 1994 to be with her son, Roberto Oquendo, stationed at Fort Bragg. She was the matriarch of a large family, with many grandkids and great-grandkids.
She is survived by her sons, Roberto Oquendo and John Brown; and daughters, Mildred Pacheco, Mayra Umpierre, Sandra Ameneiro and Elena Samkin.
Due to the current restrictions, the family will hold a ceremony in Puerto Rico when travel is possible.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, in honor of her favorite patron saint and passion for children at the website www.stjude.org
