Paul Rodney Gibson, 82, of Whispering Pines, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2019.
He was born in Leicester, England, to the late David and Edith Kershaw Gibson. Paul grew up in England and attended a private boarding school. At 17, he left school and began his career as a journalist in Ilkeston, an East Midlands mining town. Paul began his career as a financial journalist after moving to Canada in 1963, moving again in 1971 to the United States to work for Forbes magazine. During his career, Paul met or interviewed many influential people, including three American presidents and numerous heads of industry. He thrived on vibrant discussions, and the sharing of information and ideas.
In his spare time, Paul was a proud member of Kiwanis and served one term as president. In his younger years, Paul was an avid tennis player and later enjoyed golf. Among his friends and family, Paul was known for his dry sense of humor and thoughtful conversation.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Gibson (nee Whiteside); daughters, Suzanna Narducci and Rosalind Creagan (William); grandchildren, Rachel, Christopher, Trevor and Jessica; and his sister, Judy Morton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Juliet Gibson; and his brother, John Gibson.
A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at The Village Chapel, 10 Azalea Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
