Michael Edward Finney, 75, of Seven Lakes, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at First Health Hospice House, in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m., at West End Presbyterian Church.

Mike was born in Ardmore, Okla. to the late Lucas E. Finney and Helen Bippus Finney on March 26, 1944. Mike, while still in high school in West Palm Beach, Fla., began working for Florida Power and Light Company and remained for 13 years. In 1974 he accepted the utilities director position for the town of Ayden for eight years. In 1981 he accepted the utilities director position of the city of Washington, N.C., for four years. In 1984 he accepted the position of general manager and executive

vice president of Halifax EMC, The Touchstone Energy Cooperative and remained for 22 years until his retirement.

Mike was on a number of state and national boards, including the National Rural Telecommunication Cooperative Board, which he served on for nine years. He also served on the North Carolina Associates of Electric Cooperatives board and was president of the NCEMC, the statewide cooperative.

Mike and Ginger met in Washington, N.C., and were married in 1980. For the next 34 years they were in a loving relationship. They retired to Seven Lakes in 2006. They had many friends, enjoyed traveling and playing golf. They were volunteers of the BackPack Pals program in Moore County and raised money by sponsoring golf tournament events. Mike was a volunteer at First Tee of the Sandhills.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger H. Finney, in 2014; and his stepdaughter Vickie Beltoff in 2009. Survivors include his daughters Christine Finney Thompson, of Fletcher, Elizabeth Finney Smith, of Winston-Salem; his stepdaughter Dawn Alligood Watkins, of Charlotte; and his sister Lea Fuller, of Carthage; and four grandchildren, Steven Thompson, Brenna Smith, Jason Beltoff and Ashley Beltoff.
