Marian James Oswalt passed away peacefully in her home of 44 years on Friday, July 12, 2019. She was 104 years old.

Ms. Oswalt was born in 1915 on a 10-acre farm outside of what is now Dearborn, Mich. She grew up, one of six, in a close-knit family who relished singing and dancing and spending time together. Marian and her first husband, Bud Garrett, had two children, Marilyn and Jim Garrett. Both children pre-deceased their mother.

Marian moved to Pinehurst in the mid-1970 s and had lived here ever since. She was an avid golfer and was involved in a variety of community organizations. She was the president of both the Silver Foils and the Women’s Golf Association. During her years in Pinehurst she collected many friends, bringing joy and her signature brand of bawdy, tell-it-like-it-is humor to everyone who had the privilege of enjoying her company.

She leaves behind a son-in-law, John Oliver; a brother, Richard, and a sister, Mildred; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Marian’s memory at a later date.

Any contributions in memory of Marian can be made to FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Online condolences may be left at www.bolesfuneralhome.com.

Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
