Kenneth Loyd Stocum, 65, of Aberdeen, passed suddenly at his home on Saturday June 27, 2020
Ken was born Sept. 30, 1954, to the late Keith and Patricia Stocum. He was raised on a family farm in Forestville, N.Y., until he was a teenager. The family then moved back to North Carolina, where he had gone to Union Pines High School. As a young man, Ken (“Butch” to his kin) excelled in sports, making all conference on the football field. He grew up working on the farm and kept that hard-working, farmer life. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps After his honorable discharge, Ken returned to Moore County and got back to work. Soon after, he met Teresa and they had their three children. Naturally, growing all those vegetables, Ken became handy at preparing the food too. When his son was playing sports in grade school, Ken would cook for the football team every Friday night. He ran the Southern Pines Farmers’ Market for many years, where he took in teens to help work. Ken taught them responsibility, how to do their chores and to be proud of the work they did. He later owned a demolition company where he met his wife, Tiffany. He was a hustler who reveled in working and being busy, but his real love was his family.
Ken is survived by his wife, Tiffany Alford Stocum; children, Sarah Stocum Leviner and husband Kevin, Candace Stocum Hylton husband, Sam, Jacob Stocum and wife, Erin; stepchildren, Bret and Jordan Gault; six grandchildren, Kenneth Riley Leviner, Lily Leviner, Faith Leviner, Eli and Luke Hylton and Landon Stocum; and siblings Joy Powers (Lamar), Karen West (Dennis), Cheryl Ross and Keith Stocum (Cindy).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Patricia Morlock, and brother-in-law, Tom Ross.
A celebration of his life will be held at the family home, 315 Major Road, Carthage on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
