Annie Meleda Toguchi, 55, of the Woodlake Community, Vass, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014.
Annie was born April 20, 1959, in Providence, R.I., to Ann Francis (Goodwin) Masse and the late Normand Raymond Masse.
Annie was a true adventurist who shared the military lifestyle as an Army officer’s wife with travels to Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Crete, Nova Scotia, and Hawaii; and having moved 18 times during the 30-year Army career of her husband, Col.cRobert Toguchi.
A devout Irish-Catholic, she was a loving school teacher who instructed first- and second-graders at St. John’s Parish School in Baltimore, Md., for many years. Annie had a finely tuned sense of humor, natural pizzaz, and she quickly became the sparkle of any family or social get-together.
She was a vibrant and loving mother of four wonderful and exemplary children.
Her eldest son, First Lieutenant Robert Norman Toguchi, is an armor officer in 2-7 CAV, Fort Hood, Texas; daughter, Capt. Ashleigh Ann Toguchi, is an intelligence officer who completed a tour in the 2d Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division; son, Thomas Owen Toguchi, is in his senior year at Virginia Tech; and son, Jason David Toguchi, is a high school senior and football player at Union Pines. Annie is also survived by her mother, Ann Masse, of Warwick, R.I., and three siblings, Michael Masse, of Cumberland, R.I., Kevin Masse. of Johnston, R.I., and Susan Masse, of North Kingston, R.I.
A vieweing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Boles Funeral Home on Pennsylvania Avenue in Southern Pines.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Southern Pines, officiated by Father Andrew McNair. Burial will follow in the St. Anthony Cemetery.
