A West End father is accused of physically abusing his 4-month-old child, leading to the infant’s hospitalization.

Juwan Ortez Wilson, 26, was charged Wednesday with felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. The charge was filed following an investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office,

According to a news release, the agency received a report of child abuse Monday at a home in the 7600 block of U.S. 15-501. Sheriff’s deputies later learned the child had been admitted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after suffering serious injuries “while in the care of its father,” the release said.

Wilson was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond. He is expected to make his first appearance in Moore County District Court on Nov. 14.

The sheriff’s office said the infant is “expected to survive.”
