Census workers

The U.S. Census has increased the hourly wage for temporary census workers in Moore County to $17 an hour.

David Brennan, a Census recruiting assistant, said the decision was made early Thursday. The application period is open now and he anticipated that approximately 150 census takers will be hired locally.

Eligible candidates must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, have a valid Social Security number and an email address. Most census employees will need access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license because they will be required to travel to specific areas to conduct an accurate count, in addition to access to an internet-connected computer.

In addition to hourly wage, census takers will receive paid training and reimbursement for authorized work expenses including mileage. Most census takers will work in their own communities for 20-40 hours per week, over approximately a six-week period.

As a taxpayer I approve a bonus to each Census worker for counting accurately every illegal alien in our County and reporting these immediately to ICE.
