A 16-year-old girl died Thursday night in a one vehicle accident on Summer Hill Church Road.

Kayla Rose Lineberry, of Cameron, was driving east, when her vehicle left the road and hit a tree, said the highway patrol.

The accident happened at 8:48 p.m. just west of Carthage.

Lineberry was a former student at Union Pines High School. Moore County Schools officials said she transferred to another high school in August.

The highway patrol has not released a cause of the accident. Lineberry was not speeding and was wearing her seatbelt, the highway patrol said.
