Children will receive free bicycle helmets as part of an event focused on improving recreation opportunities for residents of the Needmoore community in Carthage.
The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Moore County Agriculture Center, which is located next to the Health Department building in the 700 block of Pinehurst Avenue.
According to organizers, the all-ages function will include a “bicycle rodeo” where children will receive the helmets and learn about bicycle safety. Guests are expected to be feted with hamburgers, hot dogs and an assortment of healthy food options.
The town is inviting attendees to share their ideas for using a grant that was recently awarded to address recreation needs in the community. Informational sessions are planned to discuss both the Needmore grant and a proposed byway project in Carthage.
The event is being presented through a partnership between the town, the Moore County Health Department and the Triangle J Council of Governments. For information, call Joanna King at 518-657-1986.
