A Pinehurst resident who works for a nonprofit intends to file as a Democrat for Moore County Board of Commissioners District II, replacing Candice Morrison, who has withdrawn, according to party officials.

Ariadne DeGarr is expected to file Wednesday morning for the post, according to a news release sent to local media Tuesday evening.

DeGarr works as the office manager for a local nonprofit, according to the release. According to her Facebook page, she served last year as communications coordinator at Habitat for Humanity of the Sandhills.

This would be DeGarr's first political campaign, according to the news release. She would be competing against Republican incumbent Commissioner Louis Gregory.
