Franklin “Frank” Johnson, 85, a retired law enforcement officer died on Friday, Feb. 7. He was elected Moore County Sheriff and served until 2002, when he did not seek another term of office.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields issued a brief statement on Friday evening.
"Moore County and the state of North Carolina has lost one of the greatest lawmen of our time with the passing of retired Sheriff Frank Johnson. Serving more than forty years, Ret. Sheriff Johnson began his career with the Southern Pines Police Department, then the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and concluded his career as the Sheriff of our fine county."
Fields and the Moore County Sheriff's Office staff expressed their deepest sympathies to the Johnson family.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home Chapel, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Southern Pines. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery at 1006 Bethesda Road in Aberdeen.
