Furever Yours Gala
Caring Hearts for Canines holds its Forever Yours Gala Friday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the St. Andrews Room at Pinehurst Resort, 1 Carolina Vista Drive, Pinehurst.
The event raises funds to save abandoned, neglected and stray dogs in Moore County. There will be a silent auction, drinks, food and dancing.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the English Speaking Union, Sandhills Branch is sponsoring its 2020 Shakespeare Competition featuring performances by Moore County high school students. The winner will move on to the ESU-US Shakespeare Competition in New York City. The competition begins at 3 p.m. and will be preceded by an organ recital by Dr. Homer Ferguson III at 2:30 p.m.
The competition will take place at The Village Chapel at 10 Azalea Road in Pinehurst. There is no cost to attend.

Storyteller Mitch Capel traces the journey of African-Americans in a culmination of 40 years of research Sunday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m. at the Sunrise Theater. Penick Village is sponsoring the event.
The multi-media production follows a select few African-Americans through plantation life, the Civil War and beyond.
With the utilization of great ancestral poets and writers, Mitch Capel, breathes life into these individuals and resurrects their struggle for existence.

The East Aberdeen, West Aberdeen and Pinebluff Democratic Precincts will hold their organizational meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Aberdeen Lake Recreation Center.
These precincts will elect officers, forward resolutions, and elect delegates to represent the precincts at the County Convention this spring.
All Democrats in these precincts are encouraged to attend. The coming months will be critical planning times for the Democratic Party, and input is needed from our local precincts.
At 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Weymouth Woods, children ages 3 to 5 are invited to learn about mammals in the Sandhills.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, Wildings (a program geared for ages 6 to 10), will create a half-mile long scale replica of our solar system.
On Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m., join a ranger to learn the basics of finding your way with a compass. Courses will be off-trail, so long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
