Houseplant Session

Love houseplants but haven’t had much luck with them? ou’re not alone. Join Keely Harpster Tuesday, July 16, for “Lunch and Learn” at the Gardens, sponsored by the Sandhills Horticultural Society.

Harpster is a SCC Landscape Gardening graduate and landscape design contractor. She will share detailed information on her personal successes and failures with houseplants. Learn the basics of houseplant care and insightful tidbits that will make you crave more green in your life and home.

Tag Sale

There will be a tag sale and cat adoption at the Barn at Inchalene, 765 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines, Saturday, July 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to benefit Feline Friends.

“A delightful selection of loving cats and playful kittens will be available for adoption,” says spokesman. “Sale will include home decor items, furniture, lamps, pottery, ceramics, art objects, pet supplies, etc.”

Landsharks Concert

The Landsharks return to the area Saturday, July 13, with their tribute to Jimmy Buffet and other “beachy” bands in a concert hosted by Vision 4 Moore at Cooper Ford to benefit Meals on Wheels on the Sandhills. The gate opens at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show. Cooper Ford is located at 5292 U.S. 15-501, Carthage.

The event will be held rain or shine, and no refunds will be given. “Bring your chairs,” says a spokesman. “Beer and wine will be sold and food trucks are on site. A valid form of ID is required to purchase alcohol.”

Yard Sale

A multi-family yard sale will be held from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 13, by the Rufus McLaughlin American Legion Post Auxiliary Unit No. 177 at 1650 W. New York Ave., Southern Pines.

In addition to the sale, which features household goods, clothing, jewelry and more, there will be hot food for eat in or take out, including ribs, turkey wings, sides and more.

Summer Exchange

The Sunday Exchange concert, held July 14, at 6 p.m. on the Exchange Lawn at 129 Exchange St., Aberdeen, features the beach music of The Tams.

“Each concert is completely free to the public, and you are welcome to bring your own beer (BYOB) and snacks, “We will have Lyck Yuh Finga (Caribbean cuisine) and Stachia’s Fully Loaded Grille food trucks food trucks on site and Railhouse Brewery for some delicious cold pints.”

Summer Classics

The Sunrise Theater presents “Ghost,” starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, for this week’s Summer Classic film Thursday, July 11, at 7:30 p.m.

Weymouth Woods

On Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m. the Wildings program (geared for 6-10 year olds), will learn about snakes.

On Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m., join a ranger to learn about the “Life of a Pine” on a short hike to see the distinct growth stages of the Longleaf pine.

Farmers Market

On Saturday, July 13, the Farmers Market in downtown Southern Pines will host a demonstration by local chef Sueson Vass, who is well known for using produce from the market for easy and delicious recipes.

She will create fajitas using ostrich meat, served with peach salsa. Visitors will also be able to sample ostrich bone broth as well as veggie salad.

The market opens at 8 a.m.; the demonstration is set from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
