The Sandhills Natural History Society meets Monday, July 22, at 7 p.m. at Weymouth Woods Nature Preserve. This month’s speaker is Michael McCloy, who is studying for his doctorate at Texas A&M. He will discuss several field seasons spent monitoring grassland birds across the Great Plains and the major conservation issues facing grassland species as well as the current research he is conducting in coastal Texas.

A pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Kickback Jack’s, to benefit the STEM program. Tickets are $5 and are available at www.sandhillsbgc,org or in person at the Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills, 160 Memorial Park Ct., Southern Pines.
There will be a cruise-in at Mac’s Breakfast Anytime Friday, July 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. or until dark.
“Bring your classic car, truck or motorcycle and join in the fun,” says a spokesman. “There will be door prizes, a 50-50 drawing and oldies music.”
Cruise-ins will continue on the third Friday of every month through October and are free to the public. Makers and Mojitos
The Makers and Mojitos fundraiser features the work of several artisans. It will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 19, at 305 Trackside in downtown Southern Pines.
Tickets are $30 each and include cocktails from Reverie Cocktails, beer from Southern Pines Brewery, and tasty treats from Spoon Lickers. A raffle will benefit the education fund for a Gold Star family.
Event tickets include one complimentary raffle ticket, and guests will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets.Cash and Card will be accepted for purchase of raffle tickets, 1 for $2, 8 for $10 and 20 for $20.

Children ages 3 to 5 and their parents are invited to Weymouth Woods at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, to learn about snakes via a book and craft as well as meeting a live snake.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, July 21, join a park ranger on a 1.5 mile hike to find and learn about the wide variety of butterflies in the area.
