On Thursday, Nov. 14, Helen Von Salzen will give a lunch and learn event at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange, 15 Azalea Road.

With a master’s degree in education, Von Salzen has had a career as an English teacher, guidance counselor and college admissions director. She is a Master Gardener and a certified tea and etiquette Consultant. After lecturing at UNC and other various venues for the past decade, Von Salzen has offered to give her holiday talk “All Aboard for Christmas.”

Based on the book by Christopher Jennison, the basis of the talk to be about how trains were an essential part of the holidays several years ago. Exciting rides to visit grandparents, vacations and even miniature versions of trains circled our Christmas trees in years past and even today. Of course, “The Polar Express” movie is always a special treat for children.

In the villages of the Sandhills, trains were an integral part of the development and sustainability of the resort area.

“This special Lunch & Learn will give another reason to join the Dec. 8 “Tea Time On The Train” event as a festive fundraiser for the SWE. “Enjoying tea time and delectable tidbits aboard the Aberdeen, Western & Carolina Railway Company is sure to be a memorable December event,” says a spokesman.

For this lecture and lunch by Chef Katrina for $25 per person, call (910) 295-4677 to make a reservation. For more information about Tea Time On The Train and tickets, visit www.sandhillswe.org.
