The Alfred Moore Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Southern Pines, announces the DAR Good Citizen Awards go to for North Moore High School senior River McDuffie, daughter of William and Lynne McDuffie and to Sandhills Classical Christian School senior Mark Wyatt Parson, son of Mark and Kathie Parson.

These seniors were selected by their respective schools for having the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. In addition, the DAR Good Citizen Award requires the applicant to write up to a 550 word essay, within a two-hour time limit, without assistance of reference materials.

The topic this year was “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.” The recipients received a certificate, pin and monetary award at their school’s award ceremonies.

“The daughters of the Alfred Moore Chapter are very proud of these two students and wish them much success in their future endeavors,” says a spokesman.

Nancy Collins is a member of the Alfred Moore Chapter of the DAR, Southern Pines.
