Mark your calendars! This month, Discovery Place Kids is helping our community’s newest schoolchildren get ready for their inaugural first day of school.

On Thursday, August 15, the Museum will host a free community Countdown to Kindergarten event where incoming kindergarteners can learn the ropes of this school thing before their first day of school later in August. All family members of rising kindergarten students are welcomed to join the festivities, too.

From learning how to carry a lunch tray to practicing scissor safety, Countdown to Kindergarten gives incoming students and their families the chance to feel more confident and comfortable on their first day. In addition to various activities that teach children about carrying a lunch tray, scissor safety and bus safety, the event will feature a representative from each elementary school in the Richmond County school district will attend the event, providing a great opportunity for children to meet someone from their respective schools.

The Countdown to Kindergarten takes place August 15 from 5-7 p.m. For more information, visit https://kids.discoveryplace.org
