A Carthage man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a teenage victim in serious condition early Wednesday in Vass. 

The shooting happened shortly after midnight on Vicky Lane, an unpaved road near N.C. 690 in the Lobelia community. The 16-year-old victim was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, according to a news release from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim is expected to recover, the agency said.

Cameron Justice Callicutt, 20, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.

He is due in Moore County District Court on Jan. 15.
