Two local medical professionals — Susan Couch, LCSW, Philip Couch, FNP — have teamed up to open a clinic that bridges the gap between mental and physical health by offering services for both under one roof.
Together, they have created Serenity Mental and Medical Health Care, a client-centered practice that offers treatment for everything from managing diabetes, losing weight to treating conditions like ADHD, PTSD and personality disorders. The clinic opened Jan. 1 at 430 Magnolia Square Court in Aberdeen.
“A collaborative practice is able to provide the best possible care. It allows the providers to communicate about the whole person which has shown to have better outcomes,” says Phillip Couch, a family nurse practitioner who trained at Duke University. “With a smaller practice, we can focus on the whole person, creating a connection with them to help them see positive change.” With our complex healthcare system it is recognized that new models to deliver effective patient centered care are needed.
About the Providers
Phillip Couch was working in an Internal Medicine Clinic in Laurinburg when he and his wife, Susan Couch an LCSW, began to dream of combining their passions into a holistic practice. Philip is in the process of obtaining his PMHNP in addition to his FNP. Susan had been practicing in downtown Pinehurst until she moved to this new location. She is well known in the area and she enjoys helping people create a life worth living with the use of several different treatment modalities.
Dr. Greg Clary is also well known in the area and has a strong following. He is both an internal medicine doctor and psychiatrist, was trained at Duke University and went on to found the system’s first Medical and Mental Health Clinic. He is known for his no nonsense approach to care and has extensive experience as a medical provider. He also has a passion for going on missions all over the world to help the disenfranchised.
Meghan Kohl, DNP, FNP-c a Family Nurse Practitioner and trained Functional Medicine practitioner is also joining the clinic. Functional Medicine is an approach that focuses on identifying and treating the root cause of disease. It utilizes research, scientific principles, advanced diagnostic testing and treatments to develop an individualized plan to help resolve a person’s health challenges.
Kelly Driscoll, a licensed professional counselor associate and military spouse, is going to provide therapy to those who are wanting to better manage anxiety and depression. She also has insight into the military lifestyle and the challenges it brings to spouses and families. She enjoys working with this population to help them develop healthy coping skills.
The intent of the clinic is to provide comprehensive care through different approaches. Our team works collaboratively to help each patient achieve their health goals.
