I think the Capital Gains Tax was repealed in North Carolina when Richard Morgan was in office. That was for those with the money didn't have to pay taxes on their investment returns.

I didn't give credit to the source of the information I posted since the author is unknown...poor writing skill. Some of the tax information is "dated" for example:

Reasons: We've had a number of World Wars, we now have international terrorists and the individual lifespan has increase significantly. Oh and don't forget the Thumb Tax.

Toda, I think the reason for those taxes can be directly linked to 1 Man, FDR

And the highest marginal income tax rate 68 years ago was 94% (vs. 35% today). So what? Unless you are going to do a true side by side analysis, it is all just anti-tax nonsense.

TAP ~ I'm in agreement but the bottom line, the government get theirs before net from one's earnings. Then we are taxed almost on every thing even should we chose not to make a purchase. I am a believer in Fairtax.org ... pay on what is spent and not what is earned. Then the most wealthy lose their tax advantages through loopholes.

I read an article in the Daily Beast where there are now appro. 73,000 pages in the tax code. And no one knows what they represent ~ only those changes that affect taxation of wealthy taxpayers and loopholes.

What does 73,000 pages of tax code look like?
Wow ~ a lot of tax loopholes for the wealthy! by Tommy Davis

If I threaten someone with violence unless he or she pays me money, that’s theft; no one will dispute that. Well, how does the government get people to pay taxes? If I don’t pay taxes, I will be physically seized and arrested, and if I resist or try to escape, I will be beaten and possible shot.
Taxation, you see, is theft.
Now, that doesn’t mean that taxation shouldn’t occur. You could argue that the government needs to protect us from terrorists or homosexuals or whatever, and won’t be able to do so without taxation. But even if we accept taxation as a necessary evil, there should be no ambiguities about what it is. It clearly fits the definition of theft, and should thus be kept to a minimum. Any taxation above what is absolutely necessary is a crime.

Well stated Mr. Soboeiro ~ You left out the part where they seize bank accounts and property leaving one homeless and penniless.
For years a bill has languished in Congress for a fair taxing system, similar to England. Now we are being double taxed and even triple taxed ~ or as I refer to it as "whats left over".
The tax problems of this country is easily resolved by an out of touch person with Washington politics. Good riddance to the Infernal Revenue Service ~ I've been serviced way to much in my lifetime ....
