usually do cleaning, gardening but we try to take advantage of any of the events going on around town...Farmer's Markets, festivals, etc. If there's nothing scheduled and no sporting events or group meetings are planned for the kids, then we head over to Weymouth Woods or the SCC Gardens and walk and talk. Picnics over at the Campbell House in Southern Pines, too.

Can anyone suggest a book club or reading club in the Pinehurst or Southern Pines area? I'd like to join one, especially for the summer and keep my mind going! =)

study, read, clean the house, grocery shopping, sleep-a lot, sex-a little, go to the beach, swim or lay out in the sun, local activities, whatever's going on in lower MC, outdoor club, used to go out to dance and shoot pool, but now its just movies, bowling, or out to dinner, sometimes we go camping, way way back we used to go skating (Jones skating rink!).

BTW, we need a skating rink and a skateboard park in this county!

I volunteer at the NC Zoo in Asheboro twice a month...usually on a Saturday. Get to meet lots of people from all over the state and sometimes other states. I am a Zoo Host and enjoy helping people get the most out of their visit to the zoo.

If you are interested in volunteering at the zoo, check out their website at www.nczoo.org - I am sure they would love to have more volunteers!

CNMT, what exactly does a zoo host do??

A Zoo Host greets visitors as they enter the zoo and answers questions (i.e. where are the closest restrooms, food, atm, stroller rental, wheelchair rental, tram stop). We also assist lost parents until their children find them (less scary for the kids if they think the parents are lost, not them!). I also have helped in the gift shop when they are busy - bagging purchases or straightening up merchandise.

During special events, there are other duties the zoo staff asks us to help with. On Earth Day weekend I manned a cell phone recycling booth one day.

There are other volunteer opportunities including working the Giraffe Deck or helping prepare diets for the animals at the Wildlife Rehab Center. Check out the zoo's website - click on Volunteers for more info.
