Finally!!! The football gods have smiled upon me!!! 13-0 last Friday night! What do I do now??? Go to Disneyland??? OK, maybe, not yet. There's still plenty of football left to be played. My overall mark now jumps to 76-17 (81.7%).

Nothing really surprised me last week, except for Gray's Creek's margin of victory over Douglas Byrd (42-15).

There's not as many games this week with Richmond Senior, Scotland, Lumberton and Purnell Swett taking this Friday night off. Next year, everyone will have at least one bye week since teams can play 11 regular season games in a 12 week period, instead of 11 weeks this season.

Checking the CarolinaPreps.com Top 10 polls, Richmond (5-0) is still #2 behind Matthews Butler (4-0). Scotland (4-1) drops from #7 to #8, though the Fighting Scots were victorious over Anson County last week. Also in the 4A poll, there is a three-way tie at #10, as Hoke County (5-0) shares that spot with North Davidson (5-0) and Jack Britt (4-1).

No Cape Fear Valley 3A conference teams are in the 3A poll this week as Northern Guilford (4-0) continues to hold the top spot. In the 1A poll, Swain County remains at #1, while Albemarle remains at #6 and North Rowan goes up one spot from #8 to #7.

Last week, the Simmons Ratings made its first appearance of the season. Looking at our Moore County teams through four games, Union Pines is #91 out of 97 teams in 3A. At the end of last season, the Vikings held the bottom spot. North Moore is #70 out of 81 1A teams. And, Pinecrest is #46 out of 99 4A teams. Hopefully, Mr. Simmons will update his web site before Friday night's games.

Finally, this week's Game of the Week is atypical from what I usually select. Instead of two teams with winning records, or two teams fighting trying to move up in their conference standings, or even a battle for conference superiority, I'm picking a game where two winless teams are trying to stay out of the conference basement. This week's Game of the Week will be South Davidson at North Moore.

Something really intrigues me about this matchup. At first, I was thinking this game might be like two ol' dirty, mangy toothless dogs trying to fight for a bone, which is a humorous way to look at things. But in reality, there's no telling how this game will turn out. North Moore has only scored 18 points (3 TDs) all season and has given up 43.6 points per game in five games. South Davidson has not even scored all season and has given up 38 points per game in five contests. This contest could be a high scoring affair or be a defensive battle. Overtime may be needed to determine the winner, but whomever wins will have a huge jump in spirits and momentum, while the loser of this contest will face a long, depressing remainder of its season.
