Reuben's 2012 High School Football Predictions -- Week #3

I'm still not a happy camper. Had another subpar week. Last week, I went 14-4 (77.8%). The overall mark moves slightly to 30-9 (76.9%) for the season. This is way below the high standards of which I had set for myself. Things can only get better.

Also, I was definitely NOT happy with the WEEB broadcast of North Moore versus Union Pines, even though the Vikes won. Neither of the clowns doing the broadcast knew anything about Union Pines or North Moore, much less know anything about high school football. Perhaps WEEB needs somebody more knowledgeable, perhaps myself, to cover the games. And, as much as the clown announcers were bragging and boasting about making broadcasting history by being the first station in North Carolina to broadcast two football games online simultaneously on separate web streams, they are most sadly mistaken.

Meanwhile, getting back to business ...

Pine Forest got me again last week as the Trojans defeated Gray's Creek, which had over 700 yards total offense in its season opener, but only came up just shy of 200 yards total offense versus the Trojans. I have a feeling Pine Forest is going to be the "spoiler" of the Mid-South 4A conference. Also, North Lenoir shocked West Montgomery. I need to make sure NOT to pick the Warriors if they have to travel over 100 miles for a game. Obviously they are not the "Road Warriors." And, I was surprised about Westover defeating Cape Fear as well as New Hanover upsetting Scotland.

In terms of this week's CarolinaPreps.com Top 10 polls, Richmond Senior drops from third to second in 4A while Scotland drops out of the top ten. Douglas Byrd remains ranked #5 in 3A. In the 1A poll, Albemarle remains #2, South Stanly enters the top ten coming in at #10 while North Rowan drops out of the poll after losing to Salisbury.

This week's "Game of the Week" looks to be an offensive shootout as 2A St. Pauls (1-1) travels to Sanford to take on the Southern Lee Cavaliers (0-2). St. Pauls, 58-40 winners over Fayetteville Christian, are going to try to spread out the Cavaliers with their spread offensive attack. The Cavaliers fell behind early 18-0 last week as the Cavs were defeated 37-21 by 2A Northwood. The winner of this contest could come down to whomever has the ball when time expires.

Finally, CarolinaPreps.com Radio was having technical difficulties with their Friday night online program. Hopefully, they will have fixed all their problems and be back on this Friday night around 11:30 p.m.

I do hope your Pinecrest pick doesn't lower your average again. I agree with the WEEB broadcast issues. I have to believe that there are people who understand football (and can express that understanding) better than those last Friday night. I'm not sure you are the "right" pick for that job, but you could always go and apply for a job. You never know, you just might get what you wish for!

You may want to follow-up on that Lenoir/West Montgomery game. Seems I saw where Lenoir had a player that was illegal and had to forfeit the game.

I did see info on North Lenoir having to forfeit its win over West Montgomery because of an academically ineligible player. Hmmmm ... I picked WM. Does that mean I get to add a win because of the forfeit? LOL

I hate with when wins and losses are decided in an office or board room. I remember North Moore having to forfeit three wins in 2007 (I think) because of "clerical errors", something having to do with records of player physicals.

Ummm, there ARE other broadcasts that you may choose to listen to ... Mooresportsradio.com is broadcasting Pinecrest football games LIVE every Friday night on the internet AND on STAR 102.5 FM.

Yeah, ProudPatriot, but I was talking about the so called radio coverage of the Union Pines-North Moore game. Those guys were awful!!!

True. I just wanted to make sure people were aware that STAR 102.5 FM was now covering some high school football. It's a start!

ProudPatriot, Mike Martin and Wes Smith do a good job of covering Pinecrest on Star 102.5.
